2degrees mobile (2°) launched their celular network in New Zealand in August 2009.
The company came to market with prepay plans offering cheaper calling and texting than their competitors' prepay plans.
The name "2 degrees" is a play on the six degrees of separation theory - with New Zealand's relatively low population the company like to claim that there are just two degrees of separation between all New Zealanders.
